Safe Learning and Development: Another Kindergarten Shelter Equipped in the Korabelnyi District

Published on 26.06.2025

Mykolaiv continues to equip shelters in its educational institutions to ensure children can learn and develop in safe conditions. Thanks to these efforts, another kindergarten in the Korabelnyi district has resumed operations.

The shelter was renovated by the municipal enterprise Zakhyst. The city’s Department of Education and UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) provided essential support by furnishing the space with necessary furniture, educational materials, stationery, and games.

The shelter covers an area of 240 square meters and can accommodate up to 387 people. It is fully equipped to ensure a safe and comfortable stay for children. The shelter features ventilation and sewage systems, regular and emergency lighting, Wi-Fi, and a boiler. It also includes an emergency exit, a fire safety station, and a water reserve.

The premises include restrooms for both children and adults, a medical area, and a small sports zone. There are also various learning and play stations filled with educational materials, toys, and games suitable for different age groups.

Kindergarten director Viktoriia Anatoliivna shared that even before the full-scale invasion, the kindergarten had been operating under its own educational system — a play-based technology focused on the intellectual and creative development of children. The shelter was arranged according to this same method and themed around key fairy-tale characters — the Seven Dwarfs and their friends.

“Our technology is designed to develop memory, thinking, attention, speech, and creativity. Each zone is enriched with games, teaching materials, and tools that nurture these skills. We designed the space with this in mind. We wanted children not just to enter the shelter, but to feel psychologically safe and creatively stimulated. That’s why the Seven Dwarfs from our program ‘live’ here,” Viktoriia explained.

The director emphasized that the kindergarten administration is sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed to setting up the shelter. Thanks to their support, the staff can continue working, and children can socialize, learn, and make new friends.
