In Mykolaiv, the demolition of a residential building on Pohраничna Street has begun. In 2022, the building was hit by a Russian missile, leaving half of the five-story building destroyed and beyond repair.
The demolition works are being carried out by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the European Union.
Currently, crews are dismantling the third and fourth sections of the building. The process follows a technical report obtained in 2023 and the approval of the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations.
“The works are being carried out under a UNDP contract, funded by the European Union, with funds allocated back in early summer this year. Initially, the funds were intended for projects in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, but part of the budget was reallocated to Mykolaiv. Within the same project, the demolition of the Sukhomlynskyi University building is also taking place,” said Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Head of the Department of Housing and Communal Services.
Since the building is made of brick, the city has future plans to rebuild it.
“A project management team is being formed, involving representatives from the city and the Ministry of Infrastructure, and this building will be included in their plans for further design and reconstruction,” added Ihor Nabatov.
It is worth noting that the residents of this building were among the first in Mykolaiv to receive and successfully use housing certificates under the “eVidnovlennia” program.
